Everything You Need to Get Your “Business Support” Business off the Ground!
“STOP! Before you read any further, make sure you understand that working from home “virtually” or “remotely” is not easy! It takes planning, organization, dedication and perseverance- above all else, it takes skills!”
Tired of commuting to your dreaded workplace and not quite making ends meet? Tired of making the head honchos rich while you are just considered a spoke in the wheel and replaceable? Wish you had a way to be successful and work your own hours, get paid what you are worth, work your own schedule and take off when you need too, without getting permission?
If this sounds like you, then keep reading! There is hope and there is a way!
When I left the corporate world back in December of 2005, I had no idea where to start. The only thing I knew, I wanted to work from home and have flexibility, make an honest income that could support my family and be successful. I literally spent hours upon hours scouring the internet for anything that could help me use my skills and talent and to no avail- I got scammed!
Well, for those of you that know me, I love a challenge and I was determined to make things work. I started working as an independent contractor, making $10.25- which by the way was far off from my $65k annual salary with perks…but I had to start somewhere. I learned the latest technology trends and programs that enabled me to define my niche and raise my rates to cover my expenses and actually be able to afford to do what I wanted and support others in their business so they could grow.
It wasn’t easy so if you think you can just say, “hey- I am working as a virtual assistant, this is my rate, this is what I can do for you, hire me”- chances are…you will hear quite a few no’s before you get to your YES! You need to develop a plan, a strong plan and research what others in your market are doing, what rates you can charge and so on. It takes dedication!
Here are some simple time-saving steps I wish I had available when I first started:
What am I good at? Define what services you enjoy and could provide for your ideal client
Think about who your “ideal” client would be
What special skills do you have? Write them down…
Do I need special training or certifications?
Once you have determined your answers and have a strong foundation, you can get to work. When I say work, there is much more to do.
